Peugeot 106 is a supermini car and it is being produced by a French automaker under the same name Peugeot. It was produced since 1991 to 2003. It is among the cars that had been produced for a long period. It got replaced by the Peugeot 104 for entry level. Afterwards, Peugeot 107 replaced it in 2005. By January in 1996, the car has the basis with its identical car in the size and looks, Citroen Saxo. After this time, it got the face lift and it saw the engines getting the fuel injection while the levels of the equipments were also raised.
The Peugeot 106 Nicosia was being marketed like a car that had few frills but with more thrills for its Rallye version. It did not have alloy wheels, window operated electrically or the central locking ability and this was meant to keep weight down. This car was powered by a petrol engine of 1.3 liter which was able to make 100 bhp while at 7,200rpm. It came with a manual gearbox of five-speed. The car was able to race while at the same can be used by a family as a practical car.
In 1995, an electric Peugeot 106 Limassol was launched under the name of 106 electric. The electric power train had been developed and also built under the engineer of the company from France, Heuliez. A car had been using the Nickel-Cadmium battery which was the technology from Saft Groupe S.A. It had the top speed of over 56mph and it had the official range of over 100km.
The Peugeot 106 Larnaka used the independent suspension together with a MacPherson struts on the front with the compact transverse torsion bars on its rear. The cheap models had some areas where the metal work was visible at the doors and the inside was sparse. Some of the cars used 1.0L with a 1.1 L cars and it had been fitted together with the manual gearbox of 4-speed. Other models were having the 5 speed manual for its automatic gearbox which is an option. The phase one cars has the steering power of RHD market. Like the Citroen Saxo which was its sister car, it did not include the air conditioning as the option for the RHD 106s.
Peugeot 106 had only three-door hatchback as its body style and the five door hatchback came in 1992. The first engine to be found with Peugeot – 106 had the displacement of 1.0, it was a TU9K, the fuel supply was Solex Carburetor and the output was 45hp on 6,000 rmp. It was found on the Itinea, Kid, XN and Open models. The last model was an engine of 1.6L as displacement, TU5J4 as type, Magnetti Marelli 1AP for fuel supply, 118hp on 6,600 as output.
